Is seeing a chiropractor safe? Yes, assuming you visit a trained professional who is a licensed chiropractor, you have absolutely nothing to worry about.

An official chiropractor with a license to practice is going to know the human body to a tee, how to adjust the spine properly, and what movements to avoid for maximum safety.

You’ll see that visiting a chiropractor for spinal discomfort is far safer than painkillers or more intensive treatment like surgery.

So how do you know you can trust chiropractic care to relieve your body pain without getting injured and making your body feel worse? What do the facts say about the risk of spinal manipulation? And what are situations where it might be unsafe to get an adjustment?

After you read this airtight argument, you’ll be convinced chiropractic care is safe—because it is.

Overwhelming Evidence Shows Chiropractic Is Safe

What if I told you that every NFL team offers chiropractic treatment for its players? No, I’m not just saying that—this is true.

Every National Football League team has at least one chiropractor on their staff to offer their players maximum recovery and pain treatment.

If chiropractic care were unsafe, do you think these teams and their coaches would allow the players they pay millions of dollars a year to risk injury from an unsafe medical practice? There’s not a chance in the world they’d put their players in danger.

Though because it is safe and produces such great results for their players’ body pain—without having to give them painkiller pills—every team uses it.

That’s just the beginning of this pro-chiropractic case.

Also, getting your spine adjusted is a natural remedy to straighten your spine which helps your nervous system to heal your body on its own. This is much less risky than patients with chronic pain who take too many painkillers or go through surgery and suffer irreversible damage.

With these examples in mind, let’s take a look at the evidence backed by data, since numbers don’t lie.

Take a look at this evidence on the safety and high-quality service that chiropractic patients report throughout the United States:

  • 95% of previous chiropractic patients say the treatment is effective
  • 97% of chiropractic patients in the past year are likely to see a chiropractor again if they experience back or neck pain
  • In a Consumer Reports health survey, chiropractic care was the #1 performer for treatment ahead of deep-tissue massage, prescription medication, pilates, yoga, and over-the-counter medication therapies
  • The Joint Commission, an organization who accredits more than 20,000 health care systems and every major hospital in the US, added chiropractic to its pain management standard in 2015
  • The American College of Physicians added to their low back pain guidelines in 2017 and first recommend using non-drug treatments like spinal manipulation for chronic low back pain

These facts are why chiropractic care is across the board recognized as one of the safest treatments for spinal pain that’s also drug free and doesn’t require surgery.

There’s also no risk of getting addicted since pain pills aren’t a part of the treatment. Part of the opioid epidemic in this country may stem from doctors over-prescribing pills instead of natural, safe remedies like spinal manipulation and massage therapy to heal joints and muscles.

And you don’t have highly credible organizations adding chiropractic care on their recommended treatment list if it doesn’t produce results for patients. They’d be instantly discredited if spinal manipulation didn’t work.

The reality is they’re not discredited because it’s a reliable treatment for chronic spinal pain and healing.

As you see, the dangers are extremely small if existent at all.

However, no health treatment is 100% free of potential risk and there are a few unique cases where some people shouldn’t see a chiropractor.

Few Situations To Avoid Seeing A Chiropractor

With all of that said, there are a few situations where seeing a chiropractor could only make things worse and we would not recommend you visit one.

If you suffer from one of these conditions currently, then it’s best you don’t get a spinal adjustment:

  • Numbing or tingling in your arm, leg, or body
  • Cancer in your spine
  • Severe osteoporosis
  • Risk of stroke

Because with these pre-existing injuries and illnesses, seeking chiropractic care can result in causing a herniated disk, a stroke, or compressing nerve in the lower spine.

Clearly these are things you want to avoid, and you will as long as you’re not currently suffering from a major ailment described above when you visit a chiropractor.

For all other situations, getting chiropractic care is not only safe but improves your body through natural healing and no pain pills needed.

Visiting A Chiropractor Is Safe

The overwhelming evidence above speaks for itself.

And it’s logical that chiropractors wouldn’t be around today if their practice weren’t a safe one with real physical benefits.

Because if chiropractic care doesn’t use safe measures, the business as a whole won’t have any customers as the word will get out that they’re sloppy and do shoddy work.

Plus, each chiropractor is one quick lawsuit away from going out of business and losing their license if they were to cause an injury. Chiropractors know this and are careful to take extreme care to use their hands to help heal your body, not hurt it.

After all, every single chiropractor I know personally is in the business of helping people relieve pain and feel better since that brings us the most professional satisfaction and income to afford to do what we love.

So is chiropractic care safe? You’ve seen the evidence.

It’s not only time for you answer for yourself, but it’s time you visit a chiropractor to get an initial exam, consultation, and adjustment.
